Before a set comes out, it is really hard to know if it will be good or not. Will it have desirable cards? Will it be balanced? Will the pull rates be good and the main question for most people, is it really worth investing in?
Despite Evolving Skies missing out several key flying pokemon such as Charizard, Lugia and Ho-oh, the set brings us a wealth of Pokemon both new and old in some of the most glorious art we've seen all year.
Rayquaza Vmax secret rare with a 1/283 pull rate
The secret rare Rayquaza Vmax is perhaps the pinnacle of the set, with a pull rate of 1 in 283 packs (thats almost 1 in 8 booster boxes). It is without a doubt the most sought after alternate art in the last 12 months. The set also boosts alternate arts of other classic Pokemon as well as a rainbow Gyrados, gold Inteleon and over 30 secret rares!
Alongside its impressive showcase of special cards, it also introduces some great additons to the TCG.
Umbreon Vmax's ability is often used on the competitive ladder
Evolving Skies introduces several Pokemon abilities that have seen play within the competitive meta, combining well with cards from previous sets. Umbreons 'Dark Signal' ability is essentially a built-in Boss’s Orders giving you the option to switch one of your opponent’s benched Pokemon with their active one.
Yoga Loop lets you take an extra turn
Medichamp V's ability Yoga Loop can give you an extra turn. This means you can play another Supporter, draw another card and even attack again!
But suprisingly its Flaaffy's Dynamotor ability that has seen the most play. This lets you attach electric energy from your discard pile to any of your benched Pokemon, perfect for supporting Rayquaza V and Vmax, helping them charge quickly.
Overall Evolving Skies is a must buy!
Arguably the best non special set to come out in the past two years, booster boxes are still selling for above retail! It not only offers a huge variety or different cards, but also lots of stunning artwork, powerful abilities and tons of secret rares. With over 230 cards to collect, there is tons of variety appealing to players of all different types.
